No-one would send an athlete out onto the track without training and expect
a peak performance. In the same way, students cannot be
expected to achieve their full potential without being taught
how to learn effectively and how to solve problems
logically and creatively.
Yet we rarely teach these skills. Schools teach what
subjects not how techniques. Despite the fact
that WHAT we learn in this fast-paced world can so
rapidly become out-of-date. Whereas learning HOW
to learn well is a skill for life.
The fourth window of opportunity is from 16 years
of age through to university or college. Now is the time
to teach students advanced learning and examination skills,
the techniques to solve problems creatively and the all-round
approach to self-development that will ensure career success.
